Southgate Area Guide

Situated on the boundary between Barnet and Enfield, Southgate’s expansion began when the Piccadilly Line was extended in the 1930s. The area is now very popular with young professionals and those looking to raise a family. Excellent transport links mean you can be in the centre of London is just 30 minutes and the friendly and vibrant community make Southgate a desirable location for those looking to move. Recent plans to redevelop Cat Hill, a former Middlesex University campus with the construction of 232 homes means there will be plenty of opportunities to buy or rent in the area.

Food and Drink

The Broadway is home to a number of restaurants which will cater for your every need. You can enjoy Tapas at La Paella or traditional Lebanese food from Warda. Green Space

Southgate is surrounded by large areas of green space which will allow you and your loved ones to escape from the noise of the city. Nearby Broomfield Park covers 54 acres and offers a model boating pond, baroque water garden and an orchard. Grovelands Park, which is home to a mansion house which was designed by John Nash, features a pitch and putt golf course, bowling green, basketball courts and cafe. A short journey away in nearby Cockfosters is Trent Country Park which has over 400 acres of open fields and meadows which are used to host festivals and music concerts during the summer months.


Southgate Underground Station and nearby Arnos Grove are served by the Piccadilly Line and will get you to Piccadilly Circus in 30 minutes. The railway stations at Palmers Green and New Southgate offer services towards Moorgate or Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City. Southgate is well connected when it comes to buses, with the 125, 298, 121 and a night bus, the N91 offering regular services into central London. Southgate is located just a few miles from the M25 and the M1 which makes it easy to escape from the capital using your car. Southgate is also just a 35-minute drive from Luton Airport.


Southgate is located in the catchment area of some of the finest schools in the UK such as the independent Palmers Green High School for Girls, Salcombe Preparatory School, and the Keble Preparatory School for Boys. However, local state schools such as Ashmole Academy also offer an excellent education to local kids and have been rated as Good or Outstanding in recent Ofsted reports. Walker Primary, Brunswick Primary School and Osidge Primary provide fantastic teaching experiences for younger children in the community.
